As a Delegate, one of my greatest privileges is offering scholarships to outstanding young people in my district who wish to study at colleges or universities in Maryland. The application process for the 2017 scholarships will start with each applicant for one of my scholarships submitting a FAFSA by March 1. Your high school guidance counselor will be able to provide you with all relevant information about the FAFSA.
During the 2015 and 2016 scholarship application process, there was a LOT of confusion about the district lines of District 42B. The lines had been substantially changed in the 2012 redistricting and now run all over the landscape, without a lot of coherence. As a result, quite a few students applied for scholarships from me who did not live in my district.
For 2017, I plan to carefully check to see whether scholarship applicants live in District 42B. You should do your own homework early because if you fail to apply for a scholarship from the Delegates who actually represent you and instead apply to me, by the time we get things sorted out, it may be too late for you to apply to your actual Delegates. You can easily ascertain your Legislative District by going to the following website: https://voterservices.elections.state.md.us/VoterSearch.
The application period for my 2017 scholarships will begin on Monday, January 16, 2017 and will conclude on April 3, 2017. The 2017 session of the General Assembly will begin on January 11, 2017. Please check back at this site or contact my office at any time after January 11th.
My legislative aide, Bryan Lepczyk, or my legislative intern, Tyler Hagen, will be able to provide you with information about the 2017 application process and make the 2017 application form available to you.
